Faro Airport (Aeroporto de Faro), located approximately seven kilometres west of Faro proper, is one of the busiest international airports in Portugal, servicing a region renowned for it's sun-drenched beaches, the picturesque Ria Formosa lagoon, and beautiful Moorish architecture.  Faro is an incredibly popular tourist destination and as such the Aeroporto is serviced by a large number of airlines including BMI-Baby, British Airways, easyJet, FlyBe, Jet2.com, Ryan Air and ThomsonFly.

Because Faro and the surrounding region of Algrave are best visited by car there are a number of car hire companies who base their operations out of Faro Airport.  Although Faro is an international airport it only has the one terminal, making it easy to find the car hire desks which are located at the entrance.  Some of the rental companies that operate from Faro Airport include Avis, Budget, Europcar, Sixt, Hertz, Rentauto, Alamo, Autojardim and National.  Upon collecting your car at Faro you will find that the airport is situated on a small ring-road at the end of the N125-10.  The N125-10 will lead you through the small urban area of Montenegro before bringing you to the IC4 (N125) which in turn will merge into the Av. Calouste Gulbenkian, the main road of Faro itself.  If you are visiting the Algrave region with the aim to explore as much of the area as possible, the N125 road will be the main road you use.  To the east it takes you to Olhão and the Parque Natural da Ria Formosa (via the R125); to the west it takes you to Almancil, Boliqueime, and Ferreiras.
